1914-S Indian Half Eagle

When referring to the 1914-S Indian Head Half Eagle in their U.S. Gold Coin Encyclopedia, Garrett and Dannreuther said, “this date should be considered the key date of the series.”

With a mintage of 263,000, the rarity is created by the heavy attrition which took its toll on most examples of this issue. While many are very well produced, only one MS-65 has been graded by the major companies. In grades above MS-63 this issue is extremely rare and seldom offered at auction. In lower grades, it is usually available, and people putting together About Uncirculated sets of the Indian Half Eagle series should find no problem in this particular issue, making it often forgotten by many except specialists.
